note: "Brand new release from possibly the coolest label around at the moment. Nicolas Jaar pops his Wolf + Lamb wax cherry (not counting Seth's remix of his on "Aphrika EP") with a solid double header of an ep. On the a-side "A Time For Us" combines the best of nu-disco & house for a laidback but bass-heavy jam, whilst on the flip "Mi Mujer" fuses deep house, boogie and americana in a singularly american way."

A simple premise, maybe, but that simplicity is the key to Guentner's Pop Ambient productions: Find a few elements, slowly encourage them to play together and then let them alone to see what eventuates." - Jon Dale.

note: "One for all the neo-Detroit fiends, D5 bring the lush rhythm ingenuity and warm pads in classic Delsin fashion. Title cut 'Future sense' rolls on a pure Larry Heard vibe, occasionally pausing for another toke before resuming play with with some more space jackin moods. 'Lab work' increases the melodic input with fine jazzin textures and vibes reminiscent of Jamal Moss' less screwed moments."

Kassem Mosse - Gunnar Wendel

note: "A new Workshop is always nice, the high quality label pushes the borders of a sound that attracts many kinds of DJ’s, but also maintains a feeling of a undescribable emotion.

The A side reminds me of long lost memories from Super Mario 64 (that underwater level), combined with eternal house rhythms and percussion – the streaming melody is combined with Mosse’s unmistakable bleeping synth stabs that always seem to fit the rest of the elements in his tracks. The pace is slow, but at the same time powerful enough to disembark the next track into a faster tempo.

B1 is based around a sample from Marcel Dettmann, combined with a new structural approach with weird dissonant tones that swirls around the ancient drum-like percussion and melody. The tribal vibe is there, but it’s reduced to such small hints, that it’s leaning towards a more raw edge. Excellent track.

The B2 is more mellow, but also more melancholic. A constant warmth of a low pitched synth melody fills the spectrum with unbelievable depth and stands as a concrete base for the percussion and that special house groove." - The Futurist.

'Walking The Deep Line' deftly works languid delays and reverb treatments over a skanking dub-house rhythm while 'Polarized' steps with a post-garage meets Detroit flex recalling John Beltran and the ace 'Apart From Moorpark' gets crafty with qick-stepping rhythms and mournful melodica embellished with sublime electronica." - boomkat.

Cotton's moodier compositions. These are some undeniably heavy jackers that will find a spot at the front of any minimal/micro/techno head's box." - distributor.

Praised highly by Mary Anne Hobbs, amongst others, F is rapidly becoming a point of reference and a sought-after producer. It's easy to see why. While dubstep-techno crossovers are nothing new, the quality of production here sets the mysterious Monsieur/Madame F. Aupetit in the upper echelons." - Chris Mann.

note: "There are few labels that manage to maintain high standards for a few years, but in Dutch label Delsin's case, quality has been its byword since 1996. Although inspired by Detroit techno and electro as well as Chicago house, the imprint's strength lies in its roster's ability to reinvent these benchmark sounds. That roster is the other reason: Delsin has never been shy about welcoming new artists to the fold—and this remix project is a case in point. While veteran Dutch producer Steve Rachmad delivers a version of Quince's "For My Mr" that recalls the airy chord melodies of his Sterac project—underpinned by an electro bass and a rolling rhythm—Delsin has recruited new-generation producers Shed, Redshape and Quince for the other interpretations.

Quince's take on Taho's "Energy Field" is a dense dub techno track with the doubled up beats adding to the sense of claustrophobia, while Shed's take on the same track is a linear dubstep/techno shuffler, but Redshape steals the glory. Remixing Newworldaquarium isn't an easy task at the best of times, but the masked man defies expectations: opening to the sound of someone doing a spot of DIY in the background, the happy jazzy chords that follow suggest that Redshape's in a less menacing mood than usual—but then he lets loose one of his droning, grinding basslines and once again plays to the label's strength of mixing the classic and new."

Inspired by Ron Hardy, and literally educated by legends, Adonis and Steve Poindexter, Hieroglyphic Being carries the torch of Chicago’s history and does so in dramatic fashion.

The EP’s opener “The Strenuous Life” recalls a Scott Joplin rag tune, transposed into the 21st century. While cuts like “Sex And Robots” grind and clank with brilliant syncopation.

An unrivaled voice for modern house music." - Ghostly.

Emptyset - James Ginzburg & Paul Purgas

note: "The bleep-techno fashioned by the Sahko imprint and re-ignited by Sleeparchive a couple of years back has lost much of the momentum it had last year, with the sound seemingly falling out of favour with the big name DJ's who flirted with it a good 18 months or so ago. Emptyset might well cause many of them to rethink their selections, "Isokon" offering up an exceptional blend of bleep aesthetics and warm basslines that are testament to Emptyset's open minded credentials. It's a largely looped number, with the burning embers of cinematic strings accompanying proceedings for much of their duration. The result is a widescreen reduction that oozes warmth and familiarity despite the threadbare construction, a masterful self-assurance allowing the track to avoid stylistic conceits and disruptions lesser producers might have felt compelled to engage. "Seclusion" on the flip is much more full-bodied, revolving around a machine-like percussive chug and a colossal bassline, those of you patiently waiting for the much heralded techno/dubstep crossover to fulfil its promise will want to investigate further without delay, it's a low-end beast of immense, towering proportions." - info from Boomkat.

note: "Highpoint Lowlife consistently surprise, never sticking to one style, and never ever serving up formulaic music, which brings us to the new EP release for 10-20. Lodged firmly somewhere between electronic, dubstep, dub techno and IDM, 10-20 take us to other worlds. “Overloam’d” oozes a claustrophobic ambience as the machines click and stagger, “Endzone” skews off kilter, turning in on itself until it emerges off kilter again. “Boat” oozes the hauntology unashamedly embraced by the label, but underpinned with heavier beats and percussion, the machines keeping a rhythmic balance, while the closer “GolgothA” could be the 2010 equivalent of the 80’s cult film Johnny YesNo hallucination sequence, paranoid dreams and uneasy, unsettling nightmarish visions.

It’s the lack of compromise I admire from Highpoint Lowlife and artists such as 10-20, although releasing some cutting edge electronic and dubstep music, still refuse to be pigeonholed, making the conscious choice to act outside of the square, making the listener re-evaluate their preconceptions on the music they hear. Another label that needs to be explored further to fully appreciate the depth of vision its artists hold."

note: "The trend for techno anonymity continues as a new series, Frozen Border, follows in the footsteps of the Wax, Equalized and Ancient Methods releases. Delivered in a black sleeve—the author has even forgone the ubiquitous hand stamp beloved of Hardwax-affiliated labels—the presentation compels the listener to focus solely on the music. Thankfully, this proves to be an entirely rewarding experience. Frozen Border project is based on brutal bass tones underpinning ferocious hi-hats and pounding, grainy beats that are cut in and out of the arrangement to achieve maximum effect. Sounding like a combination of '90s Hood-style repetition with visceral Djax techno, the use of new production technology means that the end result is more polished and playable.
