note: '‘2nd’ is a follow up to ‘Optofiles’, released by the raster-noton label back in 2001. Back in early 2003 Nicolai found an old battered cassette in a forest, north east of Berlin. The tape contained almost inaudible lo-fi recordings of someone playing small guitar pieces intermingled with an unusual forest ambience - noises that would become the template for ‘2nd’. Nicolai got help from assistants to restore the recordings of the found magnetic audiotape and passed the guitar files to thomas who started working on beat structures, eventually adding recordings of a nearby forest to further widen the scope of the project. these recordings were made at different hours during two days, hence the tracktitles - guiding you through 48 hours in about 40 minutes. The result is a haunting, mesmerising siesta, dense and intense static crumbling into a crisp grain of acoustic sounds, traces of piano and loose limbed guitar. If you can imagine a cross between Snd and Max Richter, or maybe Ryoji Ikeda and Sylvain Chauveau, you'll have an idea of what to expect.'

note: ‘Black Hammer’ has a Martyn-ish style with a sawing synthline that together with a vocal sample makes this track essential. The fast paced unexpected use of the samples keeps you hooked as the track progresses – weirdness in a really good sense.

‘Gunshot’ is much darker production that resembles a bit of Shackleton and a bit of some nice dark techno, the synths sounds like raindrops over a deep, deep bassline with a kick that just drowns in all the sounds that are falling in from everywhere.'

Projekt nosi nazwę najpopularniejszej wiedźmy Pendle Hill: Elizabeth Southerns, aka Demdike, artyści wskazują również na bogate odniesienia do literatury Williama Burroughsa, a muzycznie - nawet do Miki Vainio.

Brzmienie krążka zatytułowanego 'Symbiosis' będzie ściśle spokrewnione z tym, do czego przyzwyczaił nas Pendle Coven, zainspirowane kulturą industrialu, wyważone soczystymi, organicznymi teksturami, pełne misternie zbudowanych przestrzeni zatopionych w gęstej, ezoterycznej duchocie.

Na płycie usłyszymy bogato obsypany samplami wyciętymi ze ścieżek dźwiękowych filmów tureckich, indyjskich, irańskich, afrykańskich i karaibskich - egzotyczny konglomerat potężnych skandynawskich dronów, klasycznego house'u, chłodnego noise'u oraz masywnego dub-techno.

Powrót do korzeni, najprzyjemniejsze, analogowe sample roku, energia i świetne flow. #1 Redux to trak w duchu klasyki dctrax, yummy. #2 Morvern stanowi esencję dziadowskiego pędu. #3 Moog dub zawoalowany basik snuje opowieści, by poderwać się w #4, 5# zaczyna wariować, na zmianę rozciągać się i zagęszczać, 2:44, solo na basach! #6 Basin Dub - 0:55 - jeb! - przemaglowany odbiorca zostaje wyrzucony metr poza swoje cztery ściany. Debiut latającego Holendra i zarazem nowomuzyczny debiut roku. Śmierć w butach dla fana dctrax i starego bc/cr-owca, dubstep dla analogowych dziadów prychających na nowowiejską modę skreamizmu. Zalecany dobry subwoofer.
